Here at NTEN, November is Member Appreciation Month. To celebrate, we let Members take over! That means the guest posts on the NTEN Blog and the featured content in the NTEN Connect newsletter come from our Members.
To do that, we need your content. Simply send us original or popular content about nonprofit technology from yourself or your organization!
How it works:
We'll post your submissions on the NTEN blog, at the rate of one or two per weekday... |

Michaela Hackner, Project Director, Forum One Communications
Nearly all of the web communication challenges I’ve encountered with the groups I’ve worked with stem from basic content planning and governance issues.
People come to your website, first and foremost, to get information, so Content Strategy is relevant for any communications work you do. Your organizational content should be intentional.
Duh, right? But, the reality is we’ve gotten... |

A single photograph has the power to shift public policy, alter the course of wars, and engage civil society. In a time when photographs circulate around the globe at an unprecedented scale and speed, and revolutions are propelled by viral images, it has become more important than ever for mission-driven organizations to create impactful visual media that can drive action and fuel awareness. Most... |

A monthly roundup of our favorite nonprofit tech resources and other goodies. Read more posts on our blog. How much money do Americans give online, anyway? It's been a good month for infographics, especially since we discovered the Tenniswood Blog. Check out this visualization of "Who in Washington is Responsible for the U.S. Debt". The only conclusion we can draw: information presented visually is much more compelling than a spreadsheet. While you're on... |

[Editor's Note: We're talking about fundraising this month on the NTEN blog, and when you're fundraising, you've got to collect and track information about donors and donations, right? NTEN and Idealware's report on low-cost donor management systems was released earlier this summer, but here's an excerpt from the report that addresses some tracking considerations.]
Donors are the lifeblood of nonprofit organizations. You need them to survive. But how do... |

In 2009, we started the NTC Ignite tradition at our annual conference. We told attendees they could have 5 minutes and 20 slides in front of the captive nonprofit technology audience.
Anyone who has given an Ignite-style presentation knows that boiling down complex ideas into 5 minutes is tough, really tough. But the act of focusing on this type of presentation also probably helps the presenter think more about the essence of what it is he or she really... |

Inside a DatacenterWhile it's getting harder and harder to ignore the conversation surrounding "the Cloud" and its risks and rewards, have you ever stopped to think about what the Cloud actually looks like? Most people seem to have an easier time understanding something when they can see it.

As the fall chill closes in, most nonprofits are beginning preparations for year-end fundrasing campaigns. That's why we've designated September as a month to talk about fundraising and fundraising technology.
Beyond the webinars and blog posts, we've been lurking in fundraising conversations in the social spaces, as well. In no particular order, here is a compilation of some of the NTEN community's favorite fundraising resources... |

Writing last month's post about how NTEN differentiates between types of open rate made me think about the ways we've worked to boost our numbers. We're on pace to deliver more than 1,000,000 messages in 2011, so our data is beginning to amount to something meaningful. Despite the increased volume, we've managed to increase our absolute open rate year-over-year.
Looking just at our webinar messaging, we saw an open rate of roughly 22.5% in 2010, but have... |

Marfa Public Radio, KRTS, is the little nonprofit that could. This public, listener-supported radio station in West Texas, with only three staff members, carried their community through the largest wildfire in Texas history.
The Rock House Fire began on April 9 and ran through May 13th. Shortly after the fire began, KRTS lost power to their terrestrial signal. In the middle of the process of purchasing a backup generator, thanks to a federal... |

A recent report from Target Analytics found that the donors most likely to become multichannel givers are those acquired online:
It is the ability of online-acquired donors to become multichannel donors — that is, to start giving through direct mail — that significantly boosts the retention and long-term value of this group of donors far beyond what they would be if online giving were the only channel available.
We'll cover the how-to of... |
